A controversial new attendance policy at Greenport High School was the focus of the lead story in this year’s first issue of Greenport’s student newspaper, “The Quill.”
The article, by editor-in-chief Briana Pagano, details the attendance policy, which forbids students from participating in extracurricular activities after five absences from a single class. Students must make up the missed classes after school. While some students agreed with the policy’s purpose, others argued it was too strict.
The Quill, an award-winning newspaper, is published under the guidance of teacher Mindy Viggiano. There were 18 students who worked on the first issue.
